Word of mouth can do wonders to a film, and no roadblock be it clash with other big-ticket releases can overpower it. Madhur Bhandarkar’s critically acclaimed Indu Sarkar is following such an exact path, it emerged as a Box Office Contender in its first week despite release of a mass entertainer ‘Mubarakan’ along with it.
And, now the film continues to score goals in week 2 as well despite King Khan’s much awaited release ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’. When most of the films released on 28th July couldn’t hold screens because of ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’, there is no stopping for ‘Indu Sarkar’ which has managed to retain multiplexes in major metros and is looking forward to doing business in Week 2 as well.
This positive and upward trend is solely out of word of mouth publicity and looking at this trend Indu Sarkar is set to have a decent second weekend. Usually it is not the films that fail but budgets that do, Indu being made in a small budget of 7.5 crore is looking to benefit from this math.
Going by the same math, Lipstick Under My Burkha, which released on July 21 has already been declared a hit. With Mubarakan, which released in the same week with Indu Sarkar but with almost triple screen count, the collection may or may not match the cost of the film. On the other hand, Indu Sarkar released in limited screen count of 825 and being a small budget film, it’s going to break even.
Madhur Bhandarkar, the director of the film is confident that it will recover its cost of production from domestic box office which is 7.5 crore. Not only that, with good satellite and digital offers the film is expected to turn the film into a profitable venture by next week.
