A good number of films were released this weekend – Raagdesh, Indu Sarkar, Mubarakaan and Baarat Company. Each of these belonged to a different genre and had its own audience set.
Out of all the films the amount of major promotional activities and media attention was done by Mubarakaan considering it to be a commercial family film. Raagdesh and Baraat company too had a decent promotional strategy and gained good media attention.
Then comes Indu Sarkar, one of the most talked about films of 2017. With the brilliance of Neil Nitin Mukesh, impeccable acting of Kirti Kulhari, and the intention to convey a major part of Independent Indian history, this film is cashing in on good word of mouth.
The film released this Friday and was seen a major shift in the numbers over the weekend due the same.
The film that was subject to protests from Congress workers from different parts of the country, has garnered critical accolades and audiences showed a positive response too. It started off with 1.42 crore on the box office, showed a growth 1.6 crore on Saturday and has collected 4.0 crore as of now.
The rise of 15 to 20 percent in two days has been due to a strong word of mouth, a good set of people were surprised to get a peep into this chapter of the history and have appreciated the same.
On the growth Madhur Bhandarkar, director of Indu Sarkar said “Since it is a small budget film with a limited release, I’m happy that we have crossed 4CR seeing that it’s a serious niche film. I am looking forward for the figure to increase as the word of mouth and critical acclaim has been above expectations despite all the opposition to its release and ruckus being created at cinema halls.
Also, a source from PVR said “Seeing the growth of the film and the word of mouth reviews we have added 17-18 screens to accommodate people who are coming to watch Indu Sarkar”.
