Penned by Shelly Chopra Dhar and Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the film is like a fresh breath of air which deals with Lgbt in a very strong hey entertaining way. The film marks the debut Jodi of father-daughter Sonam and Anil on screen which lights up the screen. The film showcases that not every actor and actress can be romantically paired up.
Vidhu has given us some kickass movies in the past with love stories and now they are back with Ek ladki ko deka toh aisa laga.. the title is romantic as hell and yes it’s hows love between two girls two souls beyond Indian or western culture.
Alekh (Story) – Patkatha (Screenplay)
To begin with, the film starts with Rajkummar Rao (Mirza) a struggling play writer who fails miserably as a writer-Director, although he is the son of famous producer but refrains from taking any monetary and Personal help from his family. Juhi Chawla (charro) essays the role of chef and is an aspiring actor, she wants to work in plays penned by Mirza.
While Anil Kapoor has a garment business but aspired to be a chef but his mother never lets him be one, Sonam ( Sweety) daughter of Choudhary is an aspiring artist, timid, introvert, coy as she is in love with a Girl but can’t confess it to her family as they stay in Moga in Punjab. The society and family pressure makes her bind to social norms that only a guy and girl can love and live together. Until finally Sweety meets Mirza in a theatre and they keep running to save their life
How their journey unfolds as they embrace friendship, love and togetherness is something to watch out for.
The father-daughter duo, Anil Kapoor and Sonam, are a delight to watch onscreen. Written by transwoman Gazal Dhaliwal who has penned down the dialogues of the film.Talking about gender equality and neutrality the film represents love and dating not being restricted to opposite Sex.
Without vulgarity and sex involved this film is purely written from heart and touches our soul
Talking about the screenplay: The first half has suspense and is light while the second half moves the film towards climax and the gripping end keeps you at the edge of the seat.
Well, the highlight of the film is the dialogue it’s so well penned, situational, funny and to the point. Certain anecdotes by Anil Kapoor will move you and make you laugh.
You will simply love Rajkummar for his performance, what an actor. Breaking the norm of actor- actress romancing the film shows Sonam and Raj as friend who eventually helps her to get her love. Juhi Chawla is mind shattering as ever with her bubbly personality and performance every time when she came on-screen. The chemistry between Raj and Juhi is heartwarming as they exchange certain pleasantries. Juhi and Anil light up the screen every time they came. Their chemistry on screen is delight to watch. It’s funny, light and like a fresh breathe of air.
We can’t help but applaud the girl opposite Sonam Kapoor, Regina Cassandra what a powerful screen presence she has and she was very convincing her act also. Sonam was at her best showcasing her societal fears and inhibitions about her sexual orientation and love.
The other supporting cast Brijendra Kala , Seema Pahwa were mind blowing and their screen presence was apt and went with the story line.
The subject has been shown in the most matured way and the best part is it caters to a small place. Which is true as people in metropolitan cities are aware about it and accept but people in rural areas still don’t want to accept and talk about.
Geet Sangeet (Music)
The title track Ek Lakdi Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga by Rochak Kohli is soothing and love able. This romantic ballad is already ruling our heart and mind and is situational in the film too. Gud Naal Ishq is a fun punjabi number which is in the start of the film which takes the film ahead. Other songs like Good morning and few more makes it go with the screen play.
Nirnay (FilmyCurry Verdict)
Go for it, feel the love this season break free the social norms and embrace love with all your heart and soul! Mind shattering movie!
