Satish Kaushik is a great actor and has also directed many films in the past. Well, most of the films as a director have failed to make a mark at the box office. His last directorial was Gangs Of Ghosts which was panned by critics and was a flop at the box office.

Now, after nearly seven years, Kaushik has made his comeback as a director with the film Kaagaz. The movie stars Pankaj Tripathi in the lead role and is based on the life of Lal Bihari who was dead on papers but he was still alive.

Kaagaz is about Bharatlal (Tripathi) who stays in a village in Uttar Pradesh and has a music band company. To buy a bigger shop, he decides to take a loan and when he requires a legal paper for the loan, he comes to know that his relatives have declared him dead on the paper and taken his land. Then starts Bharatlal’s stuggle to prove that he is alive.

The comcept of Kaagaz is simply awesome, and Kaushik has tried to narrate it in a light-hearted way. But what goes wrong here is the dull screenplay, and an outdated narration. There are a couple of scenes that will make you chuckle and the climax will give you goosebumps, but apart from these few good things the movie has nothing great to offer.

The saving grace of this movie is Pankaj Tripathi. He has performed brilliantly once again proving that he is one of the best actors we have in the industry. Monal Gajjar plays Bharatlal’s wife, and she is damn good in her role. Satish Kaushik is strictly average, looks like he is still stuck in his 90s zone. Mita Vashisht and Amar Upadhyay are wasted.

On the whole, Kaagaz surely might have looked good on papers (script), but as a film, it dissappoints.
