Imtiaz Ali is a filmmaker who surely understands women very well. But, when we say this, we have to ignore his last big-screen outing Love Aaj Kal. To make up for the mistake that he did with Love Aaj Kal (2020), the filmmaker has come up with a web series on Netflix titled She.
While Imtiaz Ali has written the story, it is directed by Arif Ali and Avinash Das. The web series tells the story of a female constable named Bhumi (Aaditi Pohankar) who is sent on an undercover mission to catch a drug peddler. While the story concentrates on the mission, the series in-depth tries to talk about a woman’s self-discovery.
Imtiaz Ali’s story is quite good and has the perfect amount of engaging stuff. But that doesn’t mean it is a perfect web series. She also has a few flaws. The screenplay of the film is a bit stretched and at some point, you would feel that the length of the series could have easily been trimmed.
But while length plays a spoilsport, it is the performances of the three leads that keep us hooked. Aaditi Pohankar is amazing in her role. From accent to body language, she gets everything right. Vijay Varma is proving his mettle with each and every film and web series that he is doing. What a great performer. Vishwas Kini, who played a small role opposite Sonam Kapoor in Veere Di Wedding, is a surprise here. He is the show-stealer in She.
Overall, She might not be one of the best web series on Netflix, but it surely deserves a watch as it narrates an engaging story of a woman’s self-discovery.
