Due to the pandemic, many films that were supposed to hit the big screens took the OTT route, and one of them is Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Toofaan which stars Farhan Akhtar and Mrunal Thakur in the lead role. The movie started streaming on Amazon Prime Video today.
Toofaan is about Ajju Bhai (Farhan), a local gangster from Dongri. One incident introduces him to boxing, and he gets interested in it. But, one of the major reasons he decides to enter the sport is Ananya (Mrunal). Things start getting better and Ajju Bhai becomes the state-level champion, Aziz Ali. However, due to an incident, he is banned from boxing for five years. After five years, Aziz decides to make a comeback in boxing, and once again Ananya is the reason behind it. Will he be able to make a mark in the boxing ring once again? Watch the film to know that.
Well, one should not compare Toofaan to Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (Akhtar and Mehra’s film). The latter was a brilliant movie, and Toofaan has some elements that deserve applause. However, the film falters a lot, especially in the first half. You need to be patient throughout the first half to enjoy the amazing second half.
Toofaan goes to a totally different level in the second half. It will make you emotional as well as you will cheer for Aziz looking at his dedication towards boxing.
One thing that makes Toofaan a must-watch is Farhan Akhtar. He has given one of the best performances of his career. The actor is excellent in the film. Mrunal Thakur supports really well, and Paresh Rawal also leaves a mark with his performance. Hussain Dalal as Aziz’s friend shines.
However, the music of Toofaan fails to impress. There’s not even one song that you will remember after the film gets over.
On the whole, Toofaan is a decent film, a decent first half could have made it a better movie. However, you can give it a shot and watch it at least once.
